NAC found to reduce hangover effects in women
Share
While the best hangover cure remains abstinence from alcohol, promising new research shows that NAC may have promising improvements on hangover effects in women.
An alcohol hangover refers to the "combination of negative mental and physical symptoms which can be experienced after a single episode of alcohol consumption, starting when blood alcohol concentration (BAC) approaches zero." (1)
The study, recently published in Nature, explains the mechanism of action "since N-acetylcysteine(NAC) is a precursor to L-glutathione, it has the potential to decrease oxidative stress on the liver during ethanol degradation as a glutathione donor."
The study also reshares an earlier study (2) that speaks to NAC's low incidence of side effects at moderate dosages (600–1800 mg).
Our Daily Neuroprotection supplement has 600m of pharmaceutical grade NAC, along with a thoughtful mix of ALCAR, premium grape seed extract, and B vitamins designed to provide cerebrovascular support and antioxidative protection.
